Welcome to the National Safety Council site for Florida Approved Defensive Driving program The National Safety Council’s Florida version of the online Defensive Driving Course (DDC-Online) is approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicle and meets their requirement for the 4-hour Basic Driver Improvement course. With the Florida version of DDC-Online you can receive this training at your convenience on your personal computer and print your completion certificate right after you graduate! Florida motorists may elect to take the Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course to avoid points from a moving violation being added to their driving record. Individuals may take the BDI course once every twelve months, up to a maximum of five times in 10-year period. Motorists may also be required to attend a BDI course due to a court order, to fulfill a Traffic Collision Avoidance Course (TCAC) requirement, or to be eligible for an insurance discount.
